 | In an effort to incrementally upgrade a SAN from a 1Gb environment to a 10Gb environment one can utilize the auto-negotiable 1GbE/10GbE ports on a 10Gb Ethernet switch to aid in the transition from 1Gb to 10Gb. A 1Gb environment with the Dell PowerConnect 8164 shows no performance degradation when compared to a pure 1Gb environment using a standard 1Gb Ethernet switch such as the PowerConnect 7048. In addition, when running a mixed speed environment utilizing both the 1Gb and 10Gb devices, switch performance is within the expected range. |
