This new HIT for Linux includes some of the same tools you have used before on Windows servers. This version of HIT will work on RHEL 5.5 or RHEL 6.0 systems
Host Integration Tools for Linux provides the following features:
- Remote Setup Wizard Command Line Interface (RSWCLI) — A setup utility you use to:
- Discover and initialize PS Series arrays
- Configure and manage access to a PS Series group
- Set configuration parameters for Multipath I/O (MPIO)
- Manage which subnets are used for MPIO
- EqualLogic iSCSI Multipathing — A combination of user and kernel mode binaries that:
- Automate iSCSI session management to create and maintain the optimal iSCSI session
configuration for high availability and increased performance. - Improve I/O performance by intelligently routing I/O directly to the correct PS Series
array member, thereby reducing intra-group I/O forwarding.
- Automate iSCSI session management to create and maintain the optimal iSCSI session
- EqualLogic Host Performance and Configuration Tuning Suite (eqltune)— Verifies that an
optimal set of tuning parameters are set for a Linux system, to enhance performance and
usability. - EqualLogic Log Gathering Facility (eqllog)— Collects system logs and information about
the current running state of your configuration.
Requirements:
Package | RHEL 5.5 Min Version | RHEL 6 Min. Version | Explanation |
OpenSSL | 0.9.8e | 1.0.0 | Cryptographic APIs encrypt passwords stored by the RSWCLI. |
libpcap | 0.9.4 | 1.0.0 | Used by the Remote Setup Wizard array initialization protocol |
iscsi-initiator-utils | 6.2.0.871 | 6.2.0.871 | Open-iSCSI initiator |
device-mapper-multipath | 0.4.7 | 0.4.7 | User mode tools for Device Mapper multipath configuration and management |
DKMS* | 1.95 | 1.95 | Dynamic Kernel Module Support; used to build and install the dm-switch kernel module |
Python | 2.4 | 2.6 | Executes configuration scripts, including eqltune |
*DKMS requires several other packages, including gcc and kernel-devel. These essential packages allow DKMS to build and install third party kernel modules for the specific kernelversion and architecture you are running. |
Installation ProcedureHIT for Linux is packaged in RPM format, with the following package naming scheme:
equallogic-host-tools-Version-ReleaseDistribution.Architecture.rpm
The HIT for Linux RPM file is signed, which enables you to install the package using Red Hat's yum utility. Unlike rpm, yum automatically verifies packages from the Linux repository, resolves dependencies, and installs any missing packages. To install using yum:
1. Download the RPM-GPG-KEY-DELLEQL public key for your RPM signature from the following the Dell EqualLogic support site:https://support.dell.com/EqualLogic
2. Import the public key:
# rpm --import key_nameUnless the public key is regenerated, you only need to import the key once.
3. Install the HIT for Linux RPM file:
# yum localinstall rpm_file_name
As the final step in the installation process (invoked by ‘yum localinstall rpm_file_name’), the ‘eqltune’ utility will be executed in summary mode.
It is *very* important that customers address any Critical issues identified by eqltune, or the software may not function correctly. This topic is fully discussed in the User Guide which is available for download on the EqualLogic support site https://www.equallogic.com/support/download_file.aspx?id=1046
